duration, cyclical and linear, 2018, video
10 minutes, 43 seconds
I travelled the east-west roads of southern New Mexico, a site which mediates multiculturalism beyond the borders which divide intertwined communities and systems.
For a video to embody both linear and cyclical time, it’s form expands dimensionally becoming spherical. I tint the video to recognize this virtual body as a Sun, furthering the Mexican reference to cycles of time.
The Sun is an inseparable subject in the represented space of the Chihuahua desert and its cultures. Within the video’s duration, a blending of two conceptions of time emanates from the dual cultures of the US/MX border, cultures which so crucially influence the embedded context of their shared landscape.
